My fiancé and I would like to know the documents and process to get married in Shenzhen. I'm on an S2 visa and he holds a Hong Kong passport with a mainland permanent residency.

According to the relevant provisions of the "Regulations on Marriage Registration", when a Chinese citizen marries a foreigner on the Chinese mainland, the foreigner shall submit the following documents for marriage registration:


(1) His/her valid passport or other valid international travel documents, or identity documents issued by the competent authorities of the Chinese government such as the permanent residence identity card of the foreigner;


(2) A certificate issued by a notary organization or authorized authority in his/her country, authenticated by the embassy (consulate) of the People's Republic of China in that country or the embassy (consulate) of that country in China, stating that he/she is unmarried, or a certificate issued by the embassy (consulate) of that country in China stating that he/she is unmarried.


Relevant certificates issued by a country without diplomatic relations with China shall be authenticated by the embassy (consulate) of a third country that has diplomatic relations with both that country and China, or authenticated by the embassy (consulate) of a third country in China.


If an international treaty concluded or acceded to by the People's Republic of China provides otherwise, the certification procedures stipulated in the treaty shall be followed.


Hong Kong residents shall submit the following documents for marriage registration:


(1) A valid Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents or a residence permit for Hong Kong and Macao residents;


(2) A Hong Kong identity card;


(3) A statement notarized by a Hong Kong notary public stating that he/she is unmarried and has no direct blood relatives or collateral relatives within three generations with the other party (indicating the address and name of the marriage registration authority on the mainland where the marriage registration is to be conducted).


There are a total of 11 district marriage registration authorities in Shenzhen for couples to choose from.
